Day 49

Welcome to DAY 49 of the day to day living of our beautiful baby Bengal Eagle Owl

24th March 2012

Long long time since we were last here isn't it? Like I have been saying days are all the same so really nothing to tell you most of the time....

But today I do have some bits and bobs for you....

Today was the 2nd time in as many days that I have been out and about in my big solid box and in the car...

I have now had my big owl jessies fitted and I was not at all impressed by them – in fact a week on and I'm still of the same opinion!! Take a peep at the piccies and see for yourself what I think.

And I have a super duper perch all of my own – and I H A T E it big time!! Dad tethers me to the ring and stands me on the perch but before he is even stood upright again I am on the floor – I know I am going to have to get used to it – but in my time if you don't mind!!!

Back to my trips out then...seems dad has had some phone calls of late that have caused him to take me out on visits – he had a few events booked but then they were cancelled – and not by him – which was sad news – but these things happen for a reason – so as I said we visited loads of garden centres within our area

Cos I'm cute and cuddly – and don't say I'm not – everyone wanted to touch, photograph, hold, cuddle me...and most of them did do... and naturally I am a crowd puller – which again is an advantage
So we all came away from every single garden centre we visited with bookings – at least 3 times as many as we had prior to the cancellation telephone calls – I'm so excited now – I just love to show off – and I'm sure I grow with the attention – so bring on these events – not long to wait as the first one is almost upon us already!!!

I have been spending a lot of time – quality time too – with my dad – where he goes I go! And he has been working ion his shed – mainly on my big box and my perch so he pops me on the gravel out front and lets me just watch the world go by.

The kids in the street all crowd round the gates trying to pronounce my name and call me to them – yeah right – do they think I'm dim? I don't think I like kids...or is it cos I hear mum and dad all the time saying they don't like kids????

I am still naughty in the big plastic box – it is sat under the kitchen cupboard but I know if I jump up and down I can get the box to move to the edge of the unit and one more big jump sees the box hit the floor – and the wood cat litter dad uses in my box sure does scatter!!! Then once free I either get up onto the kitchen worktop to see what's laying around or I make my way through to the dining room... mum finds it amusing how I make my way to the living room door then tap on it repeatedly with my beak – nobody answers usually though....these piccies were me making my way to the front door - waiting for dad to take me outside for an hour to play.....

But if the mood takes me I will fly up the stairs – then I can torment the dogs as they are scared stiff of me – I sit there all puffed up – and they just stay away, they moan and moan till mum or dad come along and spoil my fun...dogs are pathetic!!!

These days I have a good healthy appetite and I am eating day old chick, large mice and rat – my weight has come on well so now I am over the 3lb mark...

All in all – life is pretty good for a 9 week old Bengal Eagle Owl...

These piccies were taken when dad and I were mobbed at the garden centres today!!!

Thanks for dropping by my friends – remember to change your clocks tonight too – they need to go forward one hour!

Until the next time..

Take care

Day 37

Welcome to DAY 37 of the day to day living of our beautiful baby Bengal Eagle Owl

Its a flying visit so to speak tonight....

Just had to share with you all though – I am not in dad's good books!!!

WHY???

Cos I keep escaping from my big box... tee hee...

Dad stands and watches and I sit and look all innocent so he toddles off to do whatever and bang bang bang and I'm out....

BUT,,,,

Every-time I escape I manage to knock over my big box – and then the cat litter in the bottom goes all over the floor...

The number of times I have heard dad today say – If I aren't fed up of cleaning this stuff up!!!

I think its funny...maybe its something you have to see and hear....

There is nowhere it says us birds have to be good all the time...

Is there???

Night night....got some more escaping to do....lol

Day 36

Welcome to DAY 36 of the day to day living of our beautiful baby Bengal Eagle Owl

Bet you were wondering just where I was these days weren't you? Well really nothing was happening so it wasn't really worth mum sitting here waffling on about nothing was it?

But today there are a few things to share with you!

To start with I aren't eating much – maybe its the change of weather or could it be I was over greedy of late so now I'm too full to eat any more, but what ever it is or was its not important – my weight is good – today I was 2lb 9oz...

I have to tell you its a hard life being a female – we always have something needs doing – take the other day, there I was on the work top when suddenly I spotted an old cloth – well you all know I'm nosy so naturally I made my way over for it and can you believe this – I ended up washing down the kitchen worktop – I have proof just in case you don't believe me – look at these photo's!!!

Dad has been working in his shed all week, he has revamped a perch for me – oh I tell you, it looks lovely!

He has painted it shiny black and covered the stand in new rope – I was lucky enough to have a stand on it in the shed today,.. I really do like it!!!

And what's more – I have a super duper box too – all of my own!! I watch dad put Kai in his box every night – he seems so lucky to have a place all of his own – and now I have one too!!! I have been in the box for a short time and I heard dad telling mum I would have to start standing on the perch every day and also be in the box to get used to it – the box is where I will live of a night when I am older!

Dad & I have a great relationship – wherever he goes he takes me with him so today when he was in his shed I was out too – when I was fed up of being in the shed I went for a wander around the front garden – you should have seen all the young kids faces – because its been a lovely bright and sunny day the children have all been out on their bikes – making so much noise – but I stopped them all in their tracks!!!

Well as much as I enjoy chattering away to you all like this I'm afraid I have run out of interesting things to tell you for today!

I do hope I have another exciting day again tomorrow so I can share the happenings with you....

Take care – night - xxx

Day 30

Welcome to DAY 30 of the day to day living of our beautiful baby Bengal Eagle Owl

To start the news – I have a weight to share – ermmm well I did – dad called out to mum with it this morning and she wrote it down she said – then this afternoon she has been having a little tidy up – and … well you can guess the rest....sorry!

UPDATE – mums just found the note – I weigh 2lb 7oz now....

Yesterday I was in for a treat!!! Dad had some stuff to do in his shed so he decided I could go with him....

It was amazing to say the least!!!

So much to see and do – is this what they called an adventure park I wonder? Spanners, hammers, saws – it had it all! And what's more, I had free run of it too!

So for a few hours I just toddled back and forth across the workbenches watching dad and of course tormenting and distracting him too lol – well I had to keep him on his toes didn't I? I wouldn't be a nosey young owl if I didn't!

And I have discovered just how I can escape from my box – it might be a big box – but that's not going to stop me, all I need do is jump up and down and the box moves on it's own, it's like magic! Once its moved out from under the wall unit I can do one last big jump and I'm free!!! I never go far though – I'm happy plodding about in the kitchen but if there is a door open it would be pretty silly not to explore wouldn't it? All too soon though I am caught and put back in the box....
I now have a big fascination with feet!

Don't know if its normal but in this house everyone seems to be barefoot – well mum does have her flip flops on all the time but that still pretty much a bare foot isn't it?

When I am on the floor and someone comes walking towards me I cant stop myself – I just have to pounce onto their toes – they generally yelp – not that I hurt them you understand – no, its more that initial shock of my landing there....mind you I do go on to have a good peck of the toes and that is when I am then moved off and they start dancing – bet they don't go to many discos seeing the way the dance at home....

Something else I have taken to is running across the kitchen worktops and coming to rest on the cooker top – always the same ring – heard mum tell dad that when the cooker has been in use I need to be kept away for at least an hour or I will burn my feet...that's a laugh – not me burning my feet – its mum doing cooking!!!

Well I think that is about all for today – you haven't had any news for ages so at least this will keep you going for a day or two...

So until the next time....stay safe....night night.....

Day 29

Welcome to DAY 29 of the day to day living of our beautiful baby Bengal Eagle Owl

Well I have been saying for a few days watch this space for something exciting – and this is the start of it!!!

Last night mum and dad were watching television and dad came through to the kitchen and stopped dead in his tracks – he shouted to mum to come and look!

She came and they were both gob smacked...

My big box is actually sat on the kitchen worktop but I had managed to get out of it knocking it over but only so it was lodged sort of under the wall cupboard and yet overhanging the worktop – from there I have made it to the other side of the kitchen as I had popped where I normally have my daily weigh in...

From there I had dropped to the ground and was happily toddling around - without a care in the world

The look on their faces was a real picture I can tell you....

Well I didn't wait for them to put me back in the box so quickly made my way through to the dining room – and it wasn't long before mum had her camera and was sprawled across the floor looking for piccies with a difference – she didn't manage to get anything unusual but she did manage to shoot a couple of short videos which were pretty good

If you take the time to watch the videos which are around a minute long you will hear all the very loud clicking I make – this is a bit like – this is my space so butt out!!!

Mum was quite nervous as she was just doing the video and without warning I would lunge at her and make her jump...

Then dad went off to get his falconry glove so he could get me back in the box...ha ha...I had different ideas....I wont say any more, you will have to watch the video!!!

There is no weight chart again today mainly because mum and dad got up to find me roaming in the kitchen again so dad gave me a large mouse to quieten me down then it was back in the box until he was ready to get me sorted!!

Told you it was fun...and you can expect lots of fun stories from now on – so it was worth the recent same old same old days wasn't it!

Only a few normal dull piccies but never mind

See you tomorrow I hope...

DAy 28

Welcome to DAY 28 of the day to day living of our beautiful baby Bengal Eagle Owl

Hello...

Yet again the news of my day is pretty much the same but never mind – there are a few piccies to share and some news even though its a long way from exciting!!!

I didn't actually get weighed today as poor Vicky had to go into hospital for some minor surgery so dad had to be up at stupid o'clock to take her which meant he fed me a big mouse when he got up – so it was too late to pop me on the scales once I had eaten....so you should get the update tomorrow....

So leading on from the hospital appointment, it meant that young Layton would be here with us for the day and an overnight stay!

Layton walked through the door, straight over to me box and said WOW!! The owl isn't a baby any more now grandad... so I guess that says it all.....

When dad started to clean out my box he did as he often does – put me on the kitchen worktop so I could do my own thing... mum and Layton had gone out, the 3 big birds were all out in the garden and the dogs were doing what Lurcher's do best – SLEEP!

So I was wandering about – stopping to have a nosey at the kettle, the toaster, the hot water bottle on the side, I bypassed safely the washing up bowl and made my way over to the far side of the kitchen and the microwave...dad had laid his falconry glove in front of the microwave so I casually laid down on it – and went to sleep!!!

Once mum and Layton were back I was wide awake and sat up on the glove – so Layton came over and gave me a good fuss up – its really special when a child not yet 4 has such an interest in me...and me of him too!

So to unpacking the shopping – and Layton put all the fruit on the side by the microwave – he stood there pinching black grapes and munching away on them so when he dropped one of the side I made my way over to it..... everyone giggled when I started playing football with it... not something you see everyday is it?

At teatime mum came into the kitchen and started cooking – Layton came down minutes later – he is never more than a few steps away from his grandma – anyway he looked at my box and then said something to grandma – she laughed and said I was laid down fast asleep – poor Layton said no grandma she's dead and followed it with a slap against the box which startled me into standing upright in seconds – thing it shocked Layton as he shot behind grandmas back!!! I can appreciate its not that interesting for you all to read but it was so funny as it happened!

And now I think I will leave it for tonight....sorry its nothing more but pretty soon you will be inundated with info...promise!

Till tomorrow ..... x …..
